Want your backspace key to work? | September 19, 2002 - 10:38 AM | ||
Most (probably all) of you are having trouble with the backspace key - when you press it, you get '^H' on the screen. Delete probably isn't working either. To fix it, you need to change your shell to tcsh. First copy my .tcshrc to your home directory:
Now change your shell to tcsh:
This will take about 15 minutes to propagate to all the servers. Log out and log back in, and you should have a sensible prompt, and backspace/delete will work. Also, you will be able to use the Tab key to do filename auto-completion. Try typing part of the filename and hitting Tab to see what I mean. If anyone has any problems with these instructions, please email me ASAP! |

8AM Lab: I made a mistake. To start a typescript you use the 'script' command. To end a typescript you use the 'exit' command. Like so: prompt > script You should read the 1st Year FAQ on the CPSC help pages, and you might want to check out the Beginner's Guide to UNIX. If you are interested in SSH, there is a section on it in the CPSC help pages. (NAND/NOR Guy: this might help) |
Welcome to CPSC 231 | September 6, 2002 - 4:07 PM |
This is my CPSC 231 Lab wepage for labs B04 (TR 8am in MS 205) and B17 (TR 1pm in MS 205). In the News section I will be posting stuff that is relevant to you (if you're a student in my labs, or maybe in the other 231 labs - if not, go here instead. In case you are unaware, my name is Ryan Schmidt. My email address is rms@cpsc.ucalgary.ca. If you desparately need to contact me, call 220-7041 -that's the number for my lab. Sometimes I'm actually in (but don't count on it). If you manage to find out where that lab is, DO NOT DROP BY! The graphics group has a standing policy that undergrads need appointments to come into the graphics labs. This isn't my policy, in fact I think it's kind of silly, but I still have to respect it. I'm going to make extensive use this webpage. Since most of you are new to computer science, I'm expecting a lot of questions. A lot of the same questions. So I'm going to keep a running FAQ of all the questions I get, and if you email me questions already in the FAQs, I'll answer with a references to said FAQ. You've been warned. |
